Background

Yemen has a long history of
international trade, agriculture and
commerce. Favorably located on the
southwestern corner of the Arabian
Peninsula, at the junction of the Red Sea
and the Indian Ocean, the country is home to
an ancient culture. Yemen is an ancient
country; the kingdom of Sheba was formed
here nearly 3000 years ago and settlements
dated to 1500 BC have been found.
The current boundaries of
Yemen were formed from the amalgamation of
the former two Yemens on 22nd of May 1990.
Since amalgamtion H.E. Ali Abdullah Salah
has been the President of the Republic of
Yemen.

Middle East, bordering the Red Sea, Gulf of
Aden, and Indian Ocean, between Oman and
Saudi Arabia.

Oil, gas, fish, rock salt, gypsum,
limestone, feldspar, natural zeolite, silica
sand, clay, scoria, pumice, perlite,
granite, marble, basalt, tuff; gold, silver,
zinc, lead, nickel, copper, and titanium;
fertile soil in the west.

Hot and humid along the west coast;
temperate in the
western mountains which are affected by
seasonal monsoons; extremely hot and dry
desert in east.
